Whats so hard to believe? This difference of opinion has existed for centuries. Most carry because we can. It's called exercising your rights. Not without controversy though. Remember, guns dont kill people, people kill people. Take a look here. 2nd Amendment

So, what is a hand gun actually designed for? over-the-top can opener?

Hmm, UK has about 50 Million people, the US has 304 Million, more people more crime?
Sorry I am not good at math/calculations etc.. but sure seems like alot more people live in the USA.......
Not to mention our borders are pretty much open on the south, so crime from them too?
So do you have anything to say about the criminals that have/use guns? I mean you are mentioning alot about folks that are legally carrying them, and have a right to carry them via a CHL license, 2nd amendment etc... So they have gone through background checks etc...
But I never see protests from folks like yourself, protesting the criminals that are let go or not treated harsher by the law.
Maybe if our laws were tended to appropriately then maybe we could/would have the same results as the UK.....
I would just love to see anti-gun activists protest the lame sentences these criminals get....... But that will never happen....

As for "folks like myself" who "never protest" that criminals are let go or that laws aren't enforced. I am as much for the proper enforcement of justice as I am against the free availability of guns and the perceived need to keep them. Truth be told, if it were up to me, anyone found guilty of a sufficiently serious gun violation would be spending the remainder of their life in prison.

The US has six times the population of the UK, so taking the UK number up to account for population differences would bring it to around 300. On this equalized basis, the US had 11,346 gun homicides to the UK's 300 gun homicides.

Before we take the radical action of stripping all Americans of their rights lets try enforcing the laws.
I think you will find that you have much in common with Carry Permit holders besides our love of cars.

I agree with with you!!! Awesome, we have found common ground. We agree our laws are not enforced. We agree people should be punished severely for serious gun violations. I also agree that in years past getting a gun was way too easy. These lax gun buying regulations and loopholes have since been fixed.

Other than what it is that the carry permit lets you do, I suspect you're absolutely right

About 10 years ago, I had a boss that came back from a visit to the USA with a face full of gunshot pellets.
He had been in a restaurant. In came the boyfriend of a waitress who worked there, who had recently ended the relationship. He blew her away, blew away the owner and his wife, then started shooting at diners. Thats when my boss got caught as he dove under the table. The guy then left the restaurant.
Where were the rights of those people who died?
(i can hear the 'if only someone had a gun in the restaurant' argument coming but if the first one hadnt been permitted by law......)
Im a brit, so im not wholly familiar with the 2nd amendment - but doenst it give the right to carry arms in case the state takes control over the people? - i have to say this a bit tongue in cheek - but dont you trust your politicians and America to look after you without the need for mob rule just in case they get out of line?
A lot of deaths in the meantime, just in case the state gets out of hand.
BTW - for the person that said that gun ownership was partly due to british laws - we get rid of laws that are bad, especially the 250 year old obsolete ones.
these are the current UK gun homicide figures

Regardless of whether a concealed firearm is legal to carry or not, guns will always find their way into the hands of "so-called criminals". So I really find it a moot point to continue debating which countries laws are better at preventing firearm statistics. Statistics can be skewed to say whatever you want.
