I've often wondered if BMW would pony up the repair if the coffee cup landed on the center console and spilled into the Idrive button causing the Idrive to stop working. I mean for cars out of warranty. Since this seems to be a fundamental design flaw, one would expect that they would own up to it, right?

I would have been seriously disappointed if it had visible cup holders, the fact they are tucked away neetly is pleasing to the eye. and means they can be closed forever

Too true!
The other problem I can imagine happening is the passenger side holder getting broken off if left open while someone gets in or out the passenger door!

My Ride: 04 grey 530i..mods so far are pretty basic stuff- 20% tints, 20" Cattivos, Eibach springs, 8000k xenons (pics to come)
Default

Ive never really had a problem with drinks flying out but what i have had trouble is sometimes they do not want to open, 20 oz bottles get stuck (??), and worst of all if you happen to leave one opne and someone jumps in the passenger seat the persons knees almost always bang the holder, sometimes knockoing the whole piece out. Just think its dumb place to put them, although they are kinda cool if kept closed.
