I drove a e46 M3 before I got my '04 545i. I must say that they have both made me feel like a younger man if that equates to enjoyment. I'm 46 by the way.

Here on the Westside of LA you see more old ladies driving E60s than old men. The parking lot of the Gelson's market in Pacific Palisades is festooned with them.

This was the case with my old Lexus RX300 too. When I got it in '99, it seemed to be most popular with older gals. As a youngish guy, I saw this as a big plus: who wants a car people associate with young guys and singles bar professionals?

The E60 is the best-looking production car on the road, and better still, it's a "sleeper." It passes for something less hip than it is, which is one of its hippest traits.

I think that she wanted you. At that point your move was to show her what could be accomplished in the large back seat of your E60.

Accept it. It is an old person's car - just a very good one.

If young and fun most would run a 2 seater or M3 coupe.

Apologies to the under 30's reading this!)

The fact is that average E60 buyer is 45 years old (in EU) and
average E-series MB buyer is 9 years older (54 yrs).
MB is for seniors...

Clearly, she's a young twit. I see lots of gray "old men" in Minis. How would she explain that?

Since I turn 60 this fall (and bought my first new high-perf 5 at age 40), I still think of it as a youngish middle-aged sophisticate's car. After all, it is a SEDAN. And I must say I am surprised at the number of youngins (<30) on this board; something must be happening to the appeal of the E60.

No matter what you think of the style, the demographic fact remains that the under-30-market is not normally in the $65k+ sedan field. The official BMW demographics are available in the Search field if you are interested. IIRC, the E60 was early 40s. I would also suspect that 40 is mostly centered on the popular 525s; and the age probably rises proportionally with the engine displacement (and salary!).

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Hey, that's quite simple! All these grey old men have young ladies who own the mini

Take this one step further: the lady who had traded in her E60 for a mini is now after a grey old men

MAK: you're only as young as you feel !

Old not quite. How old you are is in your heart, not what you drive.

I think the Bangle designs have captured more youth interest in the BMW product line. For example, I think the E60 is the best looking 5-series ever. I think the 745i was the best looking 7-series ever.... I prefer the trunk on the 745i to the 750i. I know my sentiments are shared with many of the younger BMW fans.

I always liked BMW, but the Bangle designs have really locked me in.

And it doesn't surprise me the number of under 30's on this board. Especially for the 8-cylinder models. What can i say? We just have taste.

I would have just told her that we E60 owners keep Mini's in the trunk instead of spare tires.
