I think the Bangle designs have captured more youth interest in the BMW product line. For example, I think the E60 is the best looking 5-series ever. I think the 745i was the best looking 7-series ever.... I prefer the trunk on the 745i to the 750i. I know my sentiments are shared with many of the younger BMW fans.

I always liked BMW, but the Bangle designs have really locked me in.
And it doesn't surprise me the number of under 30's on this board. Especially for the 8-cylinder models. What can i say? We just have taste.
Well said.....kind of echos my feelings. I have always loved bimmers...but never really felt the need to have one. I started seeing E60s around town and they took my breath away. So, I started by first just driving by the dealership, and slowing down to look. Then, I was on the dealership lot after hours to look at the cars without sales interference. I knew immediately I wanted that car.....all of a sudden I found myself striking a deal for my first E60......and I loved that car....but......I bought a car off the lot, and settled for a vehicle that didn't have everything I wanted.....so, after almost 2 years......the urge hit me again, and I moved up to the 550. I think these cars have everything. I believe they are gorgeous, solid cars, that perform outstandingly......all with...what I call a benefit....4 doors. I have thought about a Boxster, or a 997, or even the new Cayman, but I just can't get past not being able to take people/things places. And, I would guess, for some on this board, I AM old, lol....I'm 46. And I hate that I am a BMW statistic....but I'm right there in the demographic!!

I haven't seen to many <30 year olds cruising around in 911 Turbos or Ferraris recently - does that make them an old man's car? OK, maybe a bit of an extreme example, but the price of the vehicle and salaries/age/family do come in to play when it comes to who typically drives a particular car.

I recently turned 29 and have been driving 3 series (company cars) until now. Had I not been TOTALLY put off by the rear end of the new E90 , there's a strong chance I simply would have gone for a 330d m-sport without even test driving an E60. With the 520d and it's excellent leasing deal, and the m-sport pack the E60 became an option. And as you can see from my signature, the test drive was very convincing!

That said, and this may sound a little strange some of you out there, I would not feel totally comfortable going for a non-M-Sport E60 because I think the car does not fit to someone my age & without family. BUT, it most certainly would not stop me getting one and as we all know other options to make it look sportier.

Coming back to the original quote in the first post in this thread where the woman says "... I took it back because every other one I saw was being driven by old men. I traded it in for a Mini.... Lost ?5K on the trade in. " Sorry, but this lovely lady doesn't stike me as the smartest gal out there - throwing 5k out the window because she saw a lot of old guys driving it around - hmm Should've come and checked this Forum out first! Live and learn hey

Cheers

I hope you are right, as that will make our trade-in value improve. Compared to the geriatric MB and Lexus. WE're in the trunk.

I've just ordered my first 5 series, so no idea about trade-in values. Everyone bangs on about how great the E39 was and I often read that the E60 does not reach the same all round standards that the E39 did. Is this true? And if so, what were the trade in values for the E39 - that should give you a good feel for how good the E60 fairs / will fair.
I think what will help the E60 values is the fact that the "Japanese" rear end design of the E90 3 series is not going down to well, so those who want a BMW will (like myself) start looking at the E60, be it one with a smaller engine, lower spec, or a little older.

Cheers

I would have just told her that we E60 owners keep Mini's in the trunk instead of spare tires.

I too like the 745 trunk more than the 750.

HEY easy with the MINI comment in the trunk.

In my own case, sadly, yes, the e60 IS an old man's car. Though likely less old than I'd have been if I'd bought a Buick.

I am speaking of US trade values; no idea of der Faderland. Hope they are better than here.

Meh - e60 tend to be driven by "older" people because the car is expensive, and typically older people have more (disposable) money than young people. This isn't always the case - it depends on your priorities - I don't smoke, rarely drink, don't have the latest watch or designer clothes, I don't even know what model my mobile phone is - I'm a car geek though, and that's where my money goes.

I had the same s**t when I had my M3 - "is that your dad's car?", and now the same with my e60. Mainly this comes from men driving cr**py old beaters or guys who have been stiffed in the company car pool and end up with lagunas or passats. Jealousy? maybe. Freud would have a field day.

However I don't care.

It's one of the best cars there is, for any age group. Very fast, very safe and so cool it's in danger of freezing.
