I have a 2007 550i and it idles rough on cold start up (only in the morning) Took it to the deal and they said it is normal. But for a car this expensive to almost die and the RPM's fall fast every morning dose not seem right. Anyone else experience the same thing? T\

There is a service bulletin out for 550's built up to 3/07 (if I recall correctly) covering this issue. A software update is the fix (DME calibration issue). I had this problem on my 550i and the update fixed it right up.

Is there any way to find the service bulletin # My local BMW dealer says this is normal. I only have 800 miles left on the warranty and need the fix. Thanks for the help!

SIB 12 27 05: N62TU - Engine Pinging & Idle Fluctuation

The specific circumstance you referenced is listed as one of the 4 "driveability" complaints: "2. Excessive idle speed fluctuations (1100-1300 rpm) on a cold start for the first 30 seconds of engine operation, when transmission is in P or N position."

My dealer initially told me the rough idle was normal and was the vanos(?) self-adjusting - however upon further review (and providing them with this US SI they did the update and the problem went away. On a cold start, the revs still to vary a little for the first 5-10sec (which is normal) but not the longer, wilder rpm swings that made the car sound like it had engine problems -- which was particularly embarassing on a brand new vehicle.
