They did... but didnt they change the newer E-klasses back to old triditional brakes?
As for the drive-by-wire system, my 97 E-class had it, so I would imagine BMW has had it for at least that long as well.

Steer-by-wire is illegal because of safety issues. I am surprise that they have brake-by-wire coz imagine what would happen if the electronics in your car fails.
