Mr. Keith ... I'm sure your 550 stands out Just over here in LA area if you're E60 isn't fixed up you dont really get that many looks. But I totally agree with you that I also bought the 550 not because what other people thinks about it but its just an awesome car.
I drive cars for myself not for others. My friend drives an M5. I guess if I wanted to impress people I would have purchased an M. Yes it is an amazing car. In fact it takes my breath away when he lets her run.

I chose my car for the way it drove and how it meets my personal needs. The guy next to me isn't paying for my car so I don't really care what he or she thinks. I just like knowing that if I wanted too I most likely could kick there ass if they wanted to test me.

If your like me, then people will look at you and wonder why your always grinning from ear to ear.

All kidding aside, I get many compliments on my car, but like many others have already said, this is a popular car now and not uncommon. Good luck and don't get caught up with what others think, it's your money enjoy the ride.

I am about to buy a 550i and I wanted to ask you E60 owners if people give stares or a quick glance is it a car that gets any attention or it just blends in with the crowd?
I look at mine all the time--stares, quick glances, etc.--both coming and going. I am always pretty much astounded by how good it looks to me.

Marketing research tells us that we mostly notice things that are very familiar to us and things that are completely out of the norm to us.

That being said, most ALL e60 owners notice, as well as anyone that notices traffic or parked cars will notice an e60, especially if modified because of its distinctive look as compared to 90% of the norm around us.

In areas with a high population of higher end cars, it won't stand out from the norm, so the looks will come from other e60 owners (and probably the general BMW-owner population).

Hmm.. Good point. Ever since I ordered my car last month, I've been staring at every single e60 that I see.

Frankly, I bought mine since 1. I needed something that would thrill my senses while driving and 2. could haul my family around at the same time. Given a choice, I would have opted for an M3. I do get appreciative glances on the road and also at the gas stations.

IMHO, the 525/530/545/550 is not anything special here in Socal. Like another poster mentioned without having done any mods to it, no one will take a second look besides thoses that like the e60. And, even with the mods you will get looks from the likes of people in Chrysler 300s, Lexus IS350/GS430, and Infiniti M35/45 and Mercedes C/E class who will size you up and think if they can (ahem) take you, from my experience of course.
