Are the diesels ever going to come to the US? Heh, if they do - aren't they less reliable? They'd make a great deal though now with the high gas prices.

Dunno about the BMWs, but it's unlikely that we'll see diesels here for a while in any passenger cars, after the GM garbage we got in the 80s.
People didn't like the glow plugs, cold weather issues, finding fuel, etc back then and it seems that there'd need to be a shift in thinking to bring them back.
Hybrids are really the 'new diesel' here as I see it. The same folks that owned diesel VWs and MBs in the 80s now own hybrid Toyo's and Hondas.

Heh, Mercedez has a Diesel here. It hasn't met the emissions standard for 5 states in the US. The model is E320 CDI...
Hybrid will be great, but I feel that Hydrogen powered cars will be more efficient - so, in my opinion, if hydrogen technology "Comes out" soon then it's Toyota/Honda who wasted their money on Research & Development for Hybrid technology.

I would think that if they came out, it would be sometime after 2007(AFAIK) when the low sulfur fuel is available. I would love a 535d when my lease is up. I am hoping they bring it here, and I don't care if they don't offer it in the CARB states. I can get mine in CO.

As are friends in the UK can attest its about torque and milage. Here in FL diesel costs more per gallon than 93 octane. I've heard good things about the Merc diesel. The bad thing about it is its stuck in an E class body!
