In the US, there is a much larger middle class so much so that we have a lower, middle and upper "middle" class now. Europe's stratification is mainly upper and lower classes. Statistics show that US families that were in the lower income classes only stay there for a short while until they migrate to the middle class. New immigrants replenish the lower classes. In the US, if you are a good person and are financially successful you can move into any of the upper classes.
I think in Europe its harder to jump classes so there is resentment for families that are doing better than your family. In the US people identify with the more affluent people because the are the role models and targets for what you can achieve. So you tend to look at more expensive cars that others own as cars that you will own in a few years. With that you tend not to deface them because in your mind it will be your car getting defaced in a few years.
Gas is much cheaper here and wasting resources is looked upon as prestigious, so its kind of the reverse in Europe. Americans have the option of driving a Toyota Prius and getting 50 miles per gallon versus 17, getting a $4,000 income tax credit, saving $40,000 on the acquisition and get to drive in the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes without anyone else in the car AND not many people do it. The only thing you could add as an incentive is that you can sleep with Jessica Biehl.
Dont try to understand us.

Thanks for responding to this ignorant remark...
I was getting angrier and angrier until I read your post. To answer both issues, I drive a 2004 525i debadged. Why did I debadge? Because it looks smooth plus no one knows I'm only pushing 184 hp. Second, regarding the Mustang thing. I drive my girl's car to work two or three days a week. It's a 2001 V6 (193 hp). And no, there is a tin can exhaust on the back or a replica gt badge taped on somewhere.
Let me guess, this dude is from the middle of the country and probably hates anything not white....
By the way, JRV, what type of Mustang do you drive?

And its hard to argue that they do not look way better and cleaner without the badge so is it just the arrogance of americans in wanting everyone to know what they drive?
I was going to debadge this week, but my american arrogance stopped me from following through.
I guess I can use the dental floss to clean my perfect american teeth.

Also in Germany people is envious ?
I think the main reason to debadge is that in EU many people have a poor engine .
I have the badge but I'm thinking to remove it! But not for envy .

I know a lot of people (some good friends of mine too) that downgraded the bagdes to smaller engines. ![Wink](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)
