In USA there is no Day Time Running Light, because it's not required like in Canada.

US E60 cars have DRLs, and your dealer can turn them on.

Yes, there is DRL in the US. The issue is whether or not the owner can turn it on/off in the iDrive menu.

I just got my new software upgrade last week and had a loner car which was brand new. This had the daytime running lights in the lights menu in I Drive. When I received my car back with the new software mine also had this function. I am in Europe

I'm curious - -why would anyone want to turn off DRL?
It's an excellent safety feature and IMHO the car looks *much* cooler with them on

I drove from Paris to Sweden yesterday and it struck me how much less a car with no lights on is visible - a difference that can be lethal if you are catching up with slower traffic doing 150mph on Autobahn

(man, those Germans with their 545's, they fly on Autobahn )

Agree. They're also very useful on straight two-lane roads on sunny days, such as you might find in the midwest US. With the heat waves coming off the road, a car on the horizon is much more visible with lights on. Likewise in rain.

The reason I would like them off is because I would rather have only the angel eyes on during the day, this can not be acomplished with the drls on.

No offense meant, but I think that just having the halos on looks kind of dumb...kind of like folks who like to have their fogs on when there is no fog.... <_<

[/soapbox]
Basically, with just the halos on, that means you have your PARKING lights on.

I've often wished there was no middle setting for lights on cars because I see too many people driving around with parking lights thinking it is adequate enough light for them to be seen. Folks, they are called parking lights for a reason....
[/off soapbox]

I would keep the parking lights on, (Angel Eyes) just during the day, instead of DRLs.

It is my understanding that 2006 550s come with b-xenon lights. Does this mean the DRLs will be xenon if activated?
