The Impala will come from a fleet program. My company has many sales people with company cars. The company is not involved in my 535 at all...it is mine, and they USE TO pay me ~$0.48 per mile for miles driven to work (customer site). They didn't know/care what kind of car it is...just that it's a personal being driven for business, thus the mileage paid. New policy states that "no more mileage for use of personal cars....BUT....you will now qualify for a company car".

When/If I get serious about selling it...I will contact the BMWCCA. I'll probably take it to Barber's when there is a BMWCCA event or park it in the BMW Car Coral when the Rolex Series comes to Barber's.

Depending on the size of the company and how accessible the upper management is, I might try something like this:

Tell the company you wish to decline their offer of a "company car", however, you would like to take them up on the option of the gas card and the washes. Tell them you will foot the bill for maintenance, insurance, and car payment.

You get to keep the 535, and they put the gas in it and keep it clean. Yes, yes, it's not QUITE as good a deal as you get now, but it's a damn sight better than having to drive a *gulp* Impala..

PS - what kind of work do you do??

It sucks that you'll be driving an Impala, but to shed a positive light on things - be happy that you have a job.....many of us can't even say that. I'm currently employed, but the end is imminent. We've slowed down over the past few months to the point where immediate lay-offs appear to be any day now.

As for your current car decision, it's really tough to say. Perhaps you could try to convince your company to reimburse you for mileage only rather than giving you a company vehicle. I'm not sure what the national average is, but I'd imagine it's somewhere around $.40/mile so you'd get $40 for every round-trip to and from the office. In the grand scheme of things they should realize that you're really saving money for them since you're providing your own vehicle.

The 535i is an absolute monster, especially with the options you have on it. It would be a shame to let it go, I'm sure.

  1. Sell both your 535 & 911
  2. Use the Impala for commute to work
  3. Buy M5 for weekend fun

I did. Sell the Porsche, keep the Bimmer. =) Unless, of course, you're over 50. Then you should sell the Bimmer and keep the Porsche.
I don't get it?
