I've searched and searched but cant find a definitive answer. How do I update the firmware of my professional nav? We put V32 in my wifes 03 X5 and it was a huge improvement, in fact, the maps look much better than they do in my 05 525. A few places have stated that the new firmware comes with the new map dvd but only if you buy the original OEM dvd, is this true? I already have the 2011 maps but they are not OEM and before I pay for the originals, I would like to know if it will in fact update my firmware. If not, how do I go about doing it?

I don't believe your firmware or disc will change anything....just my understanding. You're talking about the CCC's firmware? What are the differences in maps between your 05 E60 and your 03 X5? Can you take a pic and show me the X5 maps? Very interested to see this.

Your wife's car has the old Mk4 drive that you could update with a CD firmware disc. Your 5 series uses the idrive which cannot be updated with a cd. You bought a modded disc for your wifes car where people have changed the properties of the map display. This cannot be done on the 5 series because people dont have access to the firmware. Dont put that V32 disc in your car, at best nothing will happen!

Interesting. Thanks. I'm not sure there is anything modded on the v32 disc, as I read and compared it to what others have said about the OEM v32, but hers is much smoother than mine. The map goes by much more fluidly and the lines for the roads are much smoother where on mine you can see jagged edges on long gentle turns.

The map formats are completely different. Your wifes car uses the High version, your car used the Professional version.

I guess I incorrectly assumed that the professional would look better than the high.

The High is graphically and functionally more superior. My theory is that BMW had to dumb the system down to allow for the idrive.
