I've got a similar problem with my car. I'm not sure it's a "stutter" but feels kind of like the car is shifting without every shifting. I notice it most just over 30mph... RPM's and gas gauge rises. A couple seconds later it does it again, and again, and again. I've noticed it between 30 and 50 but mostly when driving steady.

I've had the hard tranny slam a couple times but only about 3 times in 6 months.

BMW can't replicate the problem in either case and says everything is fine when they have the car.

BMW should do a recall on this, seriously!

I'm not sure they know what the problem is. My brand new transmission shifted perfectly for about a week. Having troubles with it already though.

Same issues or something different?

Seems like it shifts twice into 3rd. Goes in 3rd and a few seconds later it feels like it shifts again and the RPM's drop but it's still in 3rd.

hesitation back with a vengeance.

replaced the battery myself because the SA at the dealership actually said that my failing battery could have been the culprit and would not continue the diagnosis until he charged me $350 for a new battery....

so, one quick trip to Pep Boys and $94 later i have a new battery installed and will be returning back to the dealership soon. SMH i cant believe he actually said to my face that the battery could be causing a transmission slip in 5th gear alone between 1k and 2.5k RPMs....lol.

all this makes me wish i could swap out my automatic trans for a manual and call it a day.

Sorry to hear! knocking on wood, so far after my long trip I am smooth sailing, but I know it will come back at one point.

And if it does come back, I will sell it and buy a 530i or a 2008 528i LCI 6 speed manual
