So in the past I have reported that when I am driving feathering the gas between 24mph and 40mph or between 40km and 60km the car stutters every 3 seconds. like so...

......!......!.......!...... where the ! indicate a hesitation point.

Many people attribute it to a faulty automatic transmission or mechatronics etc.

Well here's another development...I just experienced this again, but needed to fill up because the tank was empty, when I filled up, the stuttering was gone. I wonder if the fuel pump has anything to do with the issue. I now know that it's not a transmission issue.
Are there fuel pump issues with 2004 545i's ?

Thanks

It's possible the real problem is one of the valves in the valve-body (aka mechatronics) and the misbehaving valve is working properly for the time being. I'd think the problem will come back. Just keep an eye on it...

On the other hand, if the problem comes back when the fuel goes below 1/4 of the tank, then fuel delivery may be the culprit.

i have the same exact problem!

i drives me f*#king crazy omg! and the dealer has no idea what the issue is. when they drive it they dont get the error. the check engine light isnt on either. i was thinking that it may be the O2 sensor but have not been able to confirm that either.

i also get the stutter sometimes while on the freeway but no where near as often as i do btwn 20 and 40 MPH....i really want to figure out what this is, its so so sooo annoying!

Can you please monitor this issue and check exactly when this occurs? At Full tank or near empty, which gear in particular and what are the weather conditions.

We'll nail this sucker !!

Thanks! When you fill up next, let's see if the sputtering occurs again. Last time I filled up the tank my sputtering was gone, this was last Friday, it's Tuesday and still nothing. have 3/4 tank full.

It's probably a hit and miss, not sure if it's related to fuel delivery (fuel pump etc) but it's an option to eliminate from my trouble shooting process.

sputtering yesterday as well....all day w/ a nearly full tank of gas. but i did notice that the issue occurred btwn 70mph and 80mph while in 5th gear (both automatic mode and manual-auto mode). seems like btwn 2.5k and 3k RPMs the sputter occurs, no matter the speed. so at least for me that starts to rule out a transmission issue unless both 3rd and 5th gear are having the same problem that is....
