i havent had the car up over 80 in a while as i have steel coming through the back tires and i am waiting to purchase wheels next month.

I speak from experience. Take the advice or leave it. Its up to you. I stand by what I say... like you I used to say the same things. perfect road, great driver, can handle speed,... etc. All it takes is one PUBLIC member on the road you share to do something different and you will live with the regrets. I hope not but if you are so sure it will never happen... so be it.

I always say, if the car manufacturer fitted a knife in the middle of the steering wheel, will people speed?

Call me what you like but if just one person who happens to stumble on what I wrote and decided it makes sense to take speeding to a designated place (track)... I would be more than happy.

cheers
Well I'm sorry to say you have the wrong car.

I have an 2008 535i and have got it to hit the govenor 3 seperate times. The needle looked like it was at 160mph but I believe the govenor is set slightly below the 160 mark.

It's designed to do that speed for hours at a time It wouldn't be a BMW if you weren't feeling confident and connected. As for 260, it'll reach that with the speed governor on. Check the vid in my sig.
I like both vids in your sig. What TV show is the second one from? I have seen that host on you tube before, but I cant remember what the show is called. I wondered if we get it over here in the states on sattelite somwehere?

Let me know, and know that I am jealous of your other video as well.

I have always loved to drive fast but dont get much chance to do so here in the Eastern US. I grew up in South Dakota where I often had cars or motorcycles opened up on some remote stretch of road where you could see forever that there was no other traffic. I have done a couple business trips to Germany where I got to experience the Autobahn, but that was before I had discovered BMW. I didnt know any better so I rented a Mercedes for my German trips, now I would love to come back some day and rent a BMW for my driving time.

How readily available are BMW's as a rental vehicle in Germany? What level can you get up to 550i or would you even be able to find an M5, and what might one expect to pay for renting a car like that? Just wondering.

The TV show was top gear. You can get it from finalgear.com. I imagine they show it on BBC America.

As for renting cars here, sure almost all the big companies here ( http://www.sixt.de/, http://www.europcar.de/, http://www.avis.de/) will offer BMWs in their range. When you're at those sites, click on a link that starts with a word that begins with Fahrzeug and you'll see their range. They use different words, but the all start with Fahrzeug.

I doubt you'd get a 550 or an M5. It doesn't make business sense for them. Not enough people wanting to pay the premium they'd have to charge.

edit: Sixt seems to be the best. They offer M3 cabrio and coupe and even 6 series (there are no slow 6 series models).

I have yet to find a place to take my car and test its limits; I honestly don't think I've taken it over 80. I don't do any highway driving, usually just city driving when heading over to a bud's house. Suburbs kinda suck in that sense.
Sounds like you're the perfect candidate for the Genesis. (Sorry, couldn't resist)
