I like the subtle touches that the ///M cars have and I wanted to update the look of my odometer. During the day, the needs are white......a little too boring for me.
For this mod, all you need is:
1- torx bits
2- Red permanent marker
To remove the odometer, you need to remove the two screw on top. Once you remove that, you can simply pull the odometer out and unplug one wire.
Then, remove the four gold screws on the back and then you have access to the needles.
Take a sheet of paper and place it under the needle you're working on (in case you slip).
Then make even strokes with the red marker and let it dry. I made a total of 5 stroke to achieve a dark red.
That's it!!!!!!!!! Next mod is to remove the UGLY steering wheel with an M5 wheel
Here's some pictures of the final product:

Seeing that M5 temp gauge really makes me wish I had one instead of the MPG.

That looks cool
My 330i had red needles too. Can you send some night pics?
I wonder what is involved and how much $$ if you just keep going and replace the needles?

For ladies, they'll love to make it pink
Good job! But for how long it'll last?

Thanks for sharing! I guess your red needle still illuminate light when you switch on the lights. Please take some night pictures, if it looks nice i'll follow your path.
