I have just recieved my renewal notice from BMW for Assist.
They have offered me the service at a cost of ?120.00 for 12 months which i suspect is proof that the service is not that popular. (Full price being ?300)
Well, even at this reduced rate i'm not renewing. I think i'd sooner buy myself a little garmin i3 as a backup for poi's (very good BTW) and which will also get me speed camera locations (whoops sorry "SAFETY CAMERAS" :'( as well.
A question kind of linked to this post regarding tracking. I was recently driving in a very large multi storey with my navigation programmed for my next destination and i noticed that the car was still being picked up by the nav and that as i turned in the car park so did the map perfectly in sync with my movements. I thought GPS worked generally on line of sight. Does this mean that the BMW has some other form of signal. Maybe some kind of electronic compass / gyroscope??

There is definately a significant input from the wheels, even in the old car.
I noticed the tunnel thing, but the clincher was a ferry crossing. It took it ages to come to terms with the new position by satelite alone, moving the car without the wheels turning is something it is not prepared for.
