i get rpm fluctuation around every 2 weeks at 1600 rpm lasts about 5mins, i just assumed it was the particulate burn off process and nothing to be concerned about, just part of the ever increasing need to lower emissions and to comply with euro IV regs. Maybe i should be a little more concerned ?
Is it on the same bit of road?
Mine does it when the road is on a very slight downhill and I'm applying very gentle throttle (i.e. just enough to keep a constant speed).

No its doesnt seem specific to a road, its with virtually no throttle opening cruising at 1600rpm, any amount of up or down speed clears the fluctuation, dont have any issues with the gbox undecided which gear to select. Its just been so unobtrusive and infrequent only lasting a few minutes it hasnt bothered me at all, the exhaust note perhaps sounds a little different at the same time and the exhaust seems to get hotter than usual, all symptoms of the particulate burn off id thought.

Same diagnostic here, if I push the throttle more no fluctuation as neither without throttle in downhill. But when only little throttle for example on constant road and there it is, but not always. Anyway few days ago I drove 150km and half of the way problem was there.

Have you noticed any difference with cold or warm motor ? My latest analysis is that with warm it's more likely to appear.

By the way, I dont?t get this particle filter system; first it collects all the shit like an ashtray and when it?s full it?s bowled over outside (burned but how well?).

Smarty, I have asked my dealer to find out from BMW AG`s database about this kind of problem. They should have some knowledge because we are not the only ones. Have your dealer contacted BMW AG?

I doubt it. They have been talking to BMW UK technical though (and BMW Customer Services after I rang them!).

Yes, still the same! They still couldn't find anything but I think they've given up and couldn't be bothered.
To be honest, I think I'll wait until the car comes up with a warning or it actually goes wrong. I don't think they'll find anything wrong until then.

It's a sad day when a mechanic is not able to troubleshoot a car unless there is a code. I bet that when this car is out of warranty, they'll find the problem.....

Hi
This is becoming a sad story for us as cannot figure what is realy wrong with 530d and BMW UK does not give a d.. about it. They are not even intrested when you ask them to read and study some of the forums , If it shows on their fault finding computer may be fixed ,otherwise we are talking rubbish. you will see from my posts that , I have been complaining about this for the past two years and been to dealers on number of times .
I called customer relations for the third time since july and awaiting for another dealer to call me and book ,also demonstrate what I am complaining about .
Don't know what else could be said?
