When I was doing an ED in Germany on Sept 14, I was near the border of Germany and France and pulled up to a rest stop that had a motel and restaurant. I was parking my 06 Black 530i SP and stepped out to grab some things out of the trunk, and this older gentleman (mid 50s to early 60s) who was standing beside his last generation Audi A6 could not stop gawking at my car. I was surprised how much attention my e60 was getting, cosidering Germany is the home of BMW. I mean I saw alot of e60s when driving on the autobahn toward France, but not alot of 530i or 545i's. Most people seemed to be driving 525s and very few people had sport packages.

So can anyone from Germany tell me, what do Germans in general consider to be a nice German Car and how do they rate different cars like BMW, Opel, VW, Audi, Porsche, MB. I know a friend who is now working in Germany, they say the local people think MB is a sh*t car. I could truly understand that cause I am not a big fan of MB because they build cars that simply lacks the character, it takes the fun out of driving. But why would Germans say that about their own car?

I'm not German but Canadian, so I cannot comment on how Germans feel about the various German auto brands. However, I noticed that practically all taxis in Germany where E class Mercedes diesels. In Germany, I saw more Audi's and VWs than any other brand, and plenty of BMW and Mercedes, and the odd Toyota here and there. In France, most people drove smaller french cars like Citroen and Pugeot. Though I saw more Mercedes in Paris than BMWs.

I was driving home late one night and drove by a 525 in the right lane. He speeds up, changes lanes, and proceeds to ride my ass for the next two miles until we hit a red light. He pulls along side and asks me "is that really a BMW?". Just then the light turned green and without saying a word, I smoked him.

2005 530i (Silver Gray w/ chromed factory wheels) and am always getting stares and compliments on how beautiful the car is.... more than with any other car that I have owned! It does make one feel good.
