I've had my 530 since 12/2004, and continue to get looks and have people come up to me in parking lots and gas stations asking me questions about the car. At a carwash a few months ago a guy who has an E39 540 asked to look in my E60 and said "that is the best looking bimmer they've made yet". He said his 540 was his fourth BMW.
Some of the traditionalists on these boards can't seem to get used to the new looks, but I've been told "that's a beautiful car" more times than I can count.

As many of us have said, the E60 design is ahead of it's time. There seem to be more of them on the road now (more people are "getting it") and, you have to admit, it's starting to look "normal" now...

Outside of a restaurant this weekend, and there were three guys (suits and ties)walking around my car, looking into the windows. My wife was waiting for me outside, and she said 'nice car huh?'. The guys asked her what it was, and she couldn't remember!! (it's debadged). I told them when I came out and we talked for a while - they loved the car.
Hilarious. (Don't tell my wife I told this story...)

And not just here in the US but also in Europe. During my ED, at gas stations people made extra effort to come and look at the car and even took pics.
I used to get the same reaction to my 745 -- even 3 years after its intro to the US. This one time in Chicago while turning and waiting for a pedestrian to cross, he started shouting and pulling his girlfriend/wife back to look at the car, "wowowowo, the new 7, I want one RIGHT NOW!"
Bangle was definitely right. Now the naysayers might say that people look at it because they think they are ugly, but certainly not to me.

Currently I have the BMW roofbars mounted on the roof. I need them to haul some big pieces around. I haven't got the folding seats .
Even without anything on the roofbars people are looking at the car if they have never seen a BMW with roofbars..
I have to say that they look very nice!!!

I can't say I have had a lot of people come up and say 'nice car' to me.. but co-workers are always looking when im pulling away, or pulling into my stall at work...
The best one: just got out of my car after handing the keys to a valet in front of a resteraunt... then a limo drove by with five young girls hanging out of the windows and sunroof (must have been a graduation) yelled accross the street "HOT CAR!!!", needless to say my face turned red, and everyone around the valet area saw the embarrased look on my face, it was funny though
Great for the ego!
When im washing the car in the driveway, seems to be where I get the most attention. People that walk by and start talking to me.

Has anyone received any negative comments to their face about their cars. I still look at peoples E60 and when I get mine, I'll probably still look at others because each one is unique to me. You hear a lot about the traditionalists, but has anyone run into one...what would you do if they told you your baby was fugly?!
