Neither car has an existing warranty. Originals expired and neither owner extended them. The 535i warranty only covers the oft-maligned turbo/pump/injectors. At 47k and 50k, respectively, I am willing to take the risk, and PPI obviously mandatory.

I should have mentioned, the prices of each car are close enough as to not make a difference.

Given that the 535' had so many HPFP issues, I'd go with the 550.
(not to mention if I had to do all over again, I'd go with the V-8, no question)

Then I'd go with the car which will last the longest with the least probability of giving you expensive issues down the road. To me that would be the V8 550i.

You touched on the important points here, V8 vs. I6 etc. I personally think the LCI is the winner here, with the Juice Box, it is probably equal to the V8 with all the LCI bells and whistles along with the Mtech kit etc. In either case, a warranty is a MUST!! Good luck with your decision! BTW, I have a friend who writes Mercury Insurance Warranties, it's a shame neither car is still in warranty as it will be more expensive to get a warranty for the car now!

Good thing we're not talking about v6's then.

If you don't plan on doing a lot of mods, the v8 is definitely the way to go. If you plan on spending a little bit of cash and want the faster car, the n54 engine can easily make more power than the v8 will. With the n54, you have the HPFP to worry about but since BMW has extended the warranty on it to 100k, it doesn't seem as much of an issue anymore.

Now if we consider the body and interior, all the little LCI updates are amazing and the m-tech kit is very nice. The 535 has been on the road for 2 years less and seen that much less sun.

The major concern I would have is that the the turbos and injectors have already had to be replaced.

My advice would be: you are already driven and had 550i so you know feeling and all v8 rush. Go test drive 535i and/or may be ask fellow member who is willing give a chance to drive a car for little bit time. Then make a decision.

Thanks for all the advice! Split sentiments on the board for sure, but I really appreciate everyone's take so far.
