I'm in Ireland, have an E60 530D and have all year round tyres.

The E60 is astonishly stable in the snow and ice on corners. Best all round driving experience ever when fully loaded. I don't believe the F10 can be a much better driving experience than the E60 (well apart from possibly more power).

It is definitly safer than any 4wd I've ever driven. The stability control acts like my guardian angel and yet pushing DSC for 3 seconds presents a little devil version of me on my shoulder!

Also, for those ppl who believe manuals are better in the snow than automatics - YOU HAVEN'T DRIVEN AN AUTO E60 IN THE SNOW!

NOTHING likes salt. And they use a lot of it here in Wisconsin. But the car - WITH PROPER SNOW TIRES - is just fine in the snow. Better than my '99 528i by a large margin, but I think a lot of that has to do with the traction control in the 550i. Just remember that once you get into deep snow, clearence becomes an issue quickly and it will be time to call the wife to come get you with the Audi allroad.

My first mod was getting dedicated rims and snow tires for my 545i here in Chicago. If I don't switch my sport tires to winter tires before Halloween, I'd definitely be toast by Thanksgiving. Rear wheel drive SMG in snow is great but you need the tires. Otherwise, it's like stopping on glass sheet with sport tires in November here...

No snow tires yet and the 550 was terrible in the snow. Last winter was my first season. I would drive my "other" car in bad snow. I hope to score some rims and tires soon. My extra car is the FWD car I let my 17 year old drive daily. She can do without for a few days but I need to be snow ready.

Thanks!!! So then Ill really be able to smoke the tires....theoretically....
Cause, if I just press is once to turn off, I cant really get her to "scream" Its a drowned-out effect..
Thanks again. I had my E39, I should have known. I did this with that one.

Totally agree the clearance might be the biggest issue in deep snow..
I saw a pathfinder couldn't come out from the 16" deep snow on the right hand side of the road. ( NYC always push the snow to the right )

Want to trade countries for a few hours? I LOVE driving on ice lakes, but over here chances are you will drown :-(

But still it gives you more control when you can engage and disengage the clutch

IF you ever tried winter tires, you'd be saying "will never use all-seasons in the winter again". It makes THAT big a difference.
