Wow,
Didn't think an SMG clutch would go bad that fast. I'm at 58k miles and just got the m-style bumper and side skirts and RPI exhaust.

How much should i save up for a new SMG clutch when the time comes?

We offer very competitive pricing. Dont expect the regular INDY shop pricing. Our labor rate is $95/hour but you can expect discounts when you're a member of 5series.net. We are a high performance shop. Feel free to call us at 347-644-5363 for a quote. An exact pricing cannot be given over the phone since parts may vary and it must be removed to check what needs to be replaced. it can be the SMG pump, flywheel, clutch, etc. We can give an approximate quote for each specific item though.

I just got off the phone with the dealer. Make it short, he told me that my clutch was burnt and now I need to replace it with a new clutch along with a flywheel which will cost around $3,200.. Than he said after all that is done they will try the car if everything will work, or else the gearbox control unit may have to be changed also.. I mean am not that worried since I paid a premium aftermarket warranty which basicly covers everything.. But what got me worried is that he told me warranties usually don't cover clutches but he will find out tomorrow when he calls my warranty and let me know.. I mean why wouldn't they cover a new clutch isn't that part of the transsmision ? Because in the cotract I have it says they cover transsmions parts..

Don't they will cover the clutch since it's a wear and tear item.

Which dealer did you bring it to? I know member on here that went to BMW Manhattan. He said they tried to jerk him.

You mean they don't cover it?

And no I deff didn't take it there since I heard a lot of bad reviews.. Instead I took it to bmw competition of smithtown in long island. And honestly am kind of getting suspecious because my car was driving perfectly fine except it smelled like clutch sometimes here and than before taking it there. Now as soon as I take it there all of sudeen everything is broken apart

I have 07 550i as well with 58,000 miles and my clutch is still fine. Most aftermarket will not cover a clutch since it is a wear and tear part. Good luck with which ever decision you make. On another note is there a way to read the history off the car computer to check for things like someone abusing the car? I know they have aftermarket units like carchip where you can download car data to see information.

My clutch lasted 98k before I replaced it Dec. '09. 2300 to replace a clutch and flywheel? I think an indy would consider resurfacing the flywheel instead of replacing it outright. However you are dealing with the stealer.

I have 77k on mine and it seems to be holding fine other than a 2nd gear hang if I'm not in sport, not sure if that is normal or what. Was expecting to get around 100k out of the clutch before I needed to even worry about that, maybe that is a little optimistic. Not only that my car goes in for the brake booster recall next Friday..

Not to high jack or anything but since some of you own 550s why not ask. Does your car idle erratically at times and have a sort of vibration, as well as driving on the freeway in 6th gear go to pass and the car just feels very doggish with a hesitation if you will, sometimes I have to really get the car into the upper rpms for it to go away IE 60mph grab 4th to get the power without hesitation.

Thanks,

Tyler
