Here is a link to a thread where the voice commands are listed;
https://5series.net/forums/topic/100...1#entry1202706
Im the second owner of my car as well, and the previous owner and i don't even speak the same language and mine works.
Check out the available commands in the second pdf of the thread above and try something that is listed.

If, for some reason you don't have an owner's manual OR would prefer to access one on-line ... go to the information section of this forum and download a manual for your year car.
Here's an example of the information in the owner's manual:

My guess is that the microphone is either broken or missing all together. ICBW, but I believe the VR and Bluetooth use seperate microphones. Maybe the PO swapped them (if car did not original come with BT and you have it now).

Don't even try using voice command if you drive with the windows down or the sunroof open or if you have a car full of talkative people

Just to remind everyone on this thread... If you don't have Nav, the only voice commands available to you are for the phone to manage your address book.

+1 to Jayarras - maybe OP does not have nav.
OP, if you don't have nav., the voice control does nothing besides control a bluetooth connected phone. Also, I know that on my car(with nav), I have to make sure to say call "Joe Smith mobile" instead of just "Joe Smith". That's because when my iPhone syncs to the car, it considers "mobile" or "home" as part of the person's name.
