I'm the 2nd owner of my car, and I think that it is used to the last guy's voice because it never gets my commands right. is there a way to "start fresh" or reboot the VR software?

thanks

As far as i know the computer does not learn individual voices, at least i have not seen it mentioned in the usermanual.

Here is a link to a thread where the voice commands are listed;
https://5series.net/forums/topic/100...1#entry1202706

Im the second owner of my car as well, and the previous owner and i don't even speak the same language and mine works.

Check out the available commands in the second pdf of the thread above and try something that is listed.

The e60 voice recognition doesn't 'learn' anything; there is a long list of instructions (check your owner's manual) that may be used to control various car functions. If your car doesn't respond to those you may have a problem with the microphone or some other component of the system. Report the problem to your dealer while you are still covered by the factory warranty.

If, for some reason you don't have an owner's manual OR would prefer to access one on-line ... go to the information section of this forum and download a manual for your year car.
Here's an example of the information in the owner's manual:

Called mine much worse. Do read the commands in the manual, really does help using them.

My guess is that the microphone is either broken or missing all together. ICBW, but I believe the VR and Bluetooth use seperate microphones. Maybe the PO swapped them (if car did not original come with BT and you have it now).

LOL ... my wife cracks up when I start calling the darn thing names because it doesn't understand when I'm saying

Don't even try using voice command if you drive with the windows down or the sunroof open or if you have a car full of talkative people

To clear the address book names from the previous owner, you need to first list the names recorded and one by one delete them from the address book using the voice commands. If the speaker is broken, that's another matter.

Just to remind everyone on this thread... If you don't have Nav, the only voice commands available to you are for the phone to manage your address book.

+1 to Jayarras - maybe OP does not have nav.

OP, if you don't have nav., the voice control does nothing besides control a bluetooth connected phone. Also, I know that on my car(with nav), I have to make sure to say call "Joe Smith mobile" instead of just "Joe Smith". That's because when my iPhone syncs to the car, it considers "mobile" or "home" as part of the person's name.
