anybody drive the new m3 yet?
No, I had the choice of getting a moderately loaded 535i or stripper M3 sedan. The $1300 gas guzzler tax on top of the M3 price killed it for me. The M3 is a great car but at the end of the day you have to pay to play.
The convertible version would be great as a weekend car, but for day to day driving the M3 would be too small for my needs.
Assuming I had 70-80K to spare for a weekend toy/track car, I would probably go with a Nissan GT-R

My Ride: 2008 BMW 550i Sport
Carbon Black Metallic/Cream Beige
Manny tranny and other stuff
Recently gone, but never forgotten:
2005 Ford Mustang GT (hence the name)
Torch Red/Crimson
Manny tranny and every option available for that year
2002 Chrysler 300M Special
Brilliant Black/Light Taupe/Dark Slate
Autostick and goo-gobs of neat features that I will sorely miss

Wait for the 09.
If you want it and can afford it, get it!
I've driven the M3 Sedan, btw, and it is intoxicating!

My Ride: 2008 M5, Silverstone II/Black
Yes. It was kind of claustrophobic (and I'm not a huge guy). It was noticably narrower than the E60 and the high waist / narrow windows and lack of a sunroof meant it felt dark. Rear visibility was poor. Nice to drive though, very good torque and plenty of pull made it seem very quick, but not in a raw, M5 kind of way. The ride is, as with the M5, a bit too harsh for the crappy roads we have to put up with here in the UK, but the shorter wheelbase made the suspension crash over the neverending potholes and speedbumps more noticable on the smaller car.
My dealer tells me they will have a 4dr M3 saloon in sometime soon so I might take that for a spin and see if it addresses the claustrophobia issues. But I don't know about the US, but over here if most drivers see you in a 3-series of any type they assume you are a d**khead so I don't know I'd ever buy one.
