The new twin turbo 6 is hot. A friend of mine who ordered a 335i can't stop talking about it. Apparently, from converting the German BMW specs on the engine, he said it gets something like 28/36 gas mileage. Pretty insane.
Also, this engine is not a Valvetronic engine. BMW has stated that direct injection and Valvetronic don't "mix". So I wonder if we'll see an abrupt departure from Valvetronic and see a complete discarding of all the current engines. Interesting question to ponder...
yep, interesting question indeed

I'm doubting that they will do the update this year...or at least I'm hoping since I'm doing ED early Sept.

I could see it going either way. Does anyone know for sure where the E92 (coupe) is being built? Is it in the same plant as the other 3 series cars or in another location?

Man, all the guessing and spectulating are making my car feel obsolete, and I just bought it last year.

These new v6/i6 have about the same HP as my V8. Damn, and it's only a year old.

At the rate you guys are talking, there will be a new engine every 2 years instead of 4 or 5 years.

Is there any new technology that brings old technology up to date?

Supercharger...

I thought I was going to keep my car for at least 5 years but it looks like I will be trading it in for either a used M5 or the 4.4 biturbo V8 in a few years.

direct injection is at this moment not possible in the US market, due to the high sulphur level in their gasoline. as long as the ami's don't change that, BMW is forced to offer two different 3-litre blocks; also they can't equipe the V8's with DI for the same reason (hardly worthwile to develop a DI V8 just for the rest of the world)
