+1 for the AS. If the PDC is not included go for it.

Hi,
I am going into the dealer today to order a new 2010 550i.
Here is the Package:

Carbon Black Metallic
Black Dakota Leather
Ventilated Seats
M Sport Package--ARS
Value Package (NAV and Ipod/US
Comfort Acess
Power Rear Sunshade With Manual Side Window
HD Radio/Satellite
Premium Logic 7 Radio
Heads-Up Display

What is the best color for the trim for black/black (Bamboo?)?
What kind of transmission features should I get? Sport Auto Transmission with Paddles?
What about Active Steering?
Do I need to worry about the type of seat that I get, or will I automatically get the best seat for this model (comfort vs. sport)?

Could anyone make the case to talk me into the 535i instead? I don't like wasting fuel if I do not need the extra horsepower, but the 550i is the 550i. When you "up" the regular 535i with the M Package, is the only other difference the engine (you also have to pay $1900 for NAV, which is not in the value package and you have to buy some extra comfort package stuff)?
Am I missing anything?
Black Dakota Leather and Ventilated Seats? Do they come together?
What is the best color for the trim for black/black - Aluminium.
Sport auto
AS will make the car handle better 99.9% of time for most people
Seats that come with the sport package are fine (the best they offer on E60)

+1 550i IMHO, based on what comes std with the 550i plus a plethora of available options and if you were to match all of the options on the 535i, you'd end up paying just a little more for a bigger engine.
+SAT with Paddles

oh..lucky!
Around $7K for the engine and 172 (19).

A CASE FOR 535: YOU GET IT WITH THE SPORT PACK - NOT THE M-SPORT PACK. THE MONEY YOU SAVE YOU SPEND ON A SET OF RIMS AND AN UMNITZA M5 BODY (WHICH IS DEFINITELY BETTER LOOKING THAN THE M-TECH, AS MOST PEOPLE AGREE NOW). You will have a much more agile performer, due to the lower weight of the 535 and a much more balanced handler, again, due to the weight and distribution of thereof. Honestly, buyng a 550 is just uselss - either go for broke and get an M5 already or get the 535i.

And I would not get a car with an automatic, had I been ordering it new from the dealer, but if you must, do get the paddles - they'll come in REALLY handy.

And yes, bamboo anthracite is your color for the black interior.

Ventilated seats are an options. In order to get them, you also have to order the Perforated Leather option. So when you combine the cost of the ventilated seats with the perforated leather, you are looking at paying almost $3,000 for ventilated seats. That was too steep for me so I passed.

The anthracite headliner is much much bettern looking with a black interior than the standard gray headliner. I'd get it and it is not too expensive. My 2003 E390 540i Sport had a anthracite headline while my current 2009 550i Sport does not have it. I really miss the look of the anthracite headliner.

I know that you can probably have a headliner custom-made, but any idea how much that would actually cost?

if you're looking for power I would go with 535, but if not and just for show I would go with the 550.

My old 550 (rpi scoops, Remus quad exhaust, S did some runs against a modded 535 member dbae1987 (not sure what exactly the mods are) and my 550 has no chance of winning. The 535 is a monster when correctly modded.

There are posts on that topic. Use the search function to find them. As I recall, it was expensive. It's a lot cheaper ot just order the Anthracite headliner from the factory.

That's just about a perfect spec other than your omission of active steering - AS is a must have option in my view.

Good luck with the order!
