Nope, these are PDC (Park Distance Control) and RDC (Reifen Druck Control) Tire Pressure Monitor modules respectively.

A search will reveal several topics on fried and relocating the MPM. Here is how to move the modules.

BMW has a bulletin showing how to relocate this stuff to the body panel areas:

here is mine after a cooler leaked. luckily the wiring harness that leads to it appears intact. the end pins need cleaning though, any thoughts as to what to clean that with?

Terrible placement by BMW. I called and filed a complaint to let them know. I'm sure it's not the first time or that it will make much of a difference. They offered no help and told me I'm on my own. Anyone have a good place that ships fast? I need a new MPM.

This was a simple mistake of spilling a bit of water from a water bottle. That was enough to slosh around and fry the MPM and release that horrid smell.

Sorry to hear!
This just reminded me about a pre-wash solution that I left in my trunk the other day! --> Going to car to pick it up back home now...

Secure your MPM too while you're at it! Put it in a ziplock and tie it up, that's what I will do. I'm also placing the new replacement unit on the side wall.

I might have similar MPM-problem, because stereo just went dead few weeks back. radio seems to be functional, but no sound. HF is also silent.
I believe it might be MPM OR some fuses - what fuses I could check that would prevent the audio working?

car computer seems to work fine. CD ejects the disc, and shuffling songs works aswell.
checked today the MPM and other boxes - seem to be visually ok, and no moisture anywhere. Can they go out even there is no moisture or such - typical?

thanks already for the given hints!

oh, car is E61 530DA 2005/04.

Apparently a new MPM needs re-programming. BMW wont do it free. Even though their crappy design caused the old one to burn up and fail. Now not only does my car smell like burned plastic, it has no entertainment. Wtf is the point of owning a sweet car that smells like crap and has no computer?

BMW are being big time jerks and refuse to reprogram it w/o a high fee.

Really disappointed right now.
