I took mine out today, cleaned the contacts with some fine sandpaper and it still works the same, crappy. I have really good radio reception so it leads me to think its not the amp. Last time I took the car to bmw they said they checked it out and it had no codes in the system. I asked if the key in the battery could be going dead and they said no they checked it. I really dont know how you check it. Unfortunately I do not have a 2nd key to test with. Im kind of lost either i buy a new key or a new amp?

Have you got comfort access?, if not there is no replaceable battery in the key, it`s charged while in the ignition lock. Only keys/ fobs with comfort access have a replaceable battery.

Here's a fun trick... take your key fob and press it into the bottom of your chin, then try to unlock your car. It will increase the range, by using your head as an antenna. I do it all the time when I can't find my car in a parking garage and I'm too far away for the remote to work.

I do not have comfort access but I read on here awhile ago that someone cut their key open and replaced the internal battery and it began working again. I know these keys eventual go dead to the point where they don't work anymore to unlock or lock. Mine always seem to not work after short trips, or after the car sits overnight.
