HI there I am from the UK and have a 525d M Sport - it is fitted with professional Sat Nav 2005-1 and the car is an 05. It has not got advanced voice controls on it but does have bluetooth as well as the Prof Sat Nav. I have read a thread that talks about adding advanced voice as a retro fit. Does this need to be done by a main dealer? Any help would be appreciated. Is it available in the UK?

Cheers

Paul

Yes. Because it involves fitting a new part and recoding the entire software for the car. The good news is that the retrofit can be performed cheaper than the factory fitted option.

I'm amazed that this is the case when they can't even offer a DAB radio tuner as a retrofit in the same manner.

Since you mention costs can you kindly point us to the source?

I suspect that's because (AFAIK) the "new part" is the split iDrive menu/voice button, which probably has a pre-wired connector ready, but the rest is software only. A DAB retrofit may mean actually changing something!!!

For prices etc, take a look here

Of course. The tuner module and a software reprogram.

So what's so different that the DAB retrofit can't be offered is my point.

Blatantly a marketing constraint.

Sorry - was trying to be humorous, implying that changing a tuner module is somewhat beyond the capabilities of a dealer, while adding a switch is just about possible.

However - now that I think about it - perhaps the MY'07 wiring loom is different (can't imagine why, if the module is self-contained, but it may be)? Otherwise, I think you are right, it's a purely (stupid) marketing decision. Do they really think someone is going to change their car just to get DAB?

FYI my e60 IS the current MY (whatever it is called in EU/US) - eg it has the AUX IN in the rear centre console.

When I ordered my "new MY" model (Mar 06), DAB wasn't offered but during the last couple of weeks (Aug 06) it has appeared on BMW(UK)as a factory-fitted option.

Incidentally I appreciate the humour - sorry if you thought otherwise.
