Wow, maybe I'm just used to it? I have it now on my current 525, but won't when my 530 comes next month. I have driven lots of loaner cars when mine is at the dealer and I honestly cannot say that I was missing it. I don't know, I might really miss it when it's gone and I'm driving every day without it.

Yep, but you CAN NOT compare the Emmy to a regular E60. The Emmy has a total different setup that fits better in a SPORTS car.

Active Steering was last years INNOVATION OF THE YEAR and the other major car manufacturers are working on systems like that now. Go figure!

Why we can't compare the m5 with the e60? Yes it has alot of changes like (bigger reavier engine, M smg 7 speed tranny, M shock absorbers, M software..well quite alot of things are M prepared) but the rest is the "ordinary" e60. If AS would have been sooo much great and make the car handle better or for safety situations or anything you want that would make the car overall better, it would have been standard for the M5 or maybe the M departament would have made modds to make an M AS.

But i saw they left the steering all alone, without too much computing power just "simple" feel power that involves much more driving (FROM THE DRIVER) and much less computing power.

I don't know about other members but, as another member said before me, i didn't buy my car for the parking lot. I bought my car for everything (speed, slides from now and then, track as often as i can) and so on...
yes at parking the as would come in handy but that's it imo. I drove a car with as and that's about the time when i felt it could come in handy (at parking).

Last friday we had here Bmw performance day. So we had on an airstrip some 525i, 525xi, 530d, 535d and the M5, too bad we didn't ge the 545i. We had to test all the cars at speed, handling (corners, S turns, U turns and so on). The purpose was to compare the X drive with rear drive. Some cars were equipped with as like the 535d and the 525i. Let me tell you that while fighting with the car at the limit, u know tire squealing some smoke now and then in those sharp S turns and U turns without knocking down any pillars the cars that came with as felt...well it didn't quite felt too much...it semmed rather more beefy at that violent steering and less responsive in both feel and road contact. The X drive also felt not so sporty compared to rear drive.

In the end it also comes to what do you expect your bimmer to be. If you want more "sheer driving pleasure" go less with the computerised stuff, helll TURN THE DSC OFF, if you want more comfort than sport, leave the sport pck alone, don't even bother for the M pack, and get AS and DD and 16 tyres or max 17 and maybe a bavarian gurl on the back seat. Or even better go get a benz!

I love my AS! Works quite well for me. I like to get all 10/10ths out of my cars and AS is very "seamless" to me.

AS is one of my favorite features. I rubbed a few curbs at first but now use it to my benefit as I feel supremely in control making subtle or large turns at all speeds. A breakthrough innovation that I hope is available on any future BMW I may own.

Way minor, just slight side wall touch, no rim touch. Hardly enough to mess up the Armor All, but enough to get my attention that I needed to be careful when turning close to curbs.

Ah no rim damage... *phew* Hate to see another A08 / Auburn hurt.

P.S. anyone know the Order / Color code for Auburn?

Dont have it, I have tried it in ridleyr's car, only noticed it when pulling back onto his drive, hit the end stop in half a turn...bit of a surprise.

I ordered my 530i with a Sports Package but not Active Steering. The steering I have is servotronic and it is awesome. I test drove active steering and to me it seems like more of a luxury feature than performance feature. I did not care for the feeling of increased and decreased ratios. I like my steering to be consistent and I like to get feedback from the road. I did not feel like I was getting that in Active Steering. The standard sterring on the US models is servotronic and is absolutley the best steering I have experienced.

I have actually never driven a car with active steering. So I obviously don't have it or miss it. But I am afraid if I do test it I will want it! (Same with the Logic 7)

Tried AS during my research period and thought it was a nice feature, just didnt feel the need to have it though.

Took a 530i with AS in an empty parking lot and at low speeds made quick turns trying to avoid the speed bumps, again nice but I felt like being connected to the road. Maybe in my next bimmer i've give it more of a test to see if I feel differently..

I always thought BMW made it a option(removed from sport pkg) because people wanted sport pkg without it or I guess people didnt want sport pkg but wanted AS.
