I have it and didn't realize how much I liked it until I drove other cars. The car magazines kept criticizing it as artificial and odd-feeling - I could not disagree more. I have a 2005 model and acclimated to AS within a week and it makes the car feel so much lighter in tight turns. I think BMW improved it vs. the 2004 so maybe that's why people did not like it when the new 5er came out. Has anyone driven a 2004 vs. 2005 with AS? Any differences in feel?

I have it. Its better since i picked it up in munich -- since the many software upgrades.
Its still un-natural feeling when i switch between vehicles. (x3 and the 530i)

I don't have it. After testing cars with and without it, I decided not to order it. The quick response at low speeds was great and no problem to adapt to, but the lazier response at high speeds (compared to the servotronic) was not to my liking.

After all, I didn't buy a car for the parking lot....

For some reason, the new M5 doesn't have it either. Go figure.

I have actually never driven a car with active steering. So I obviously don't have it or miss it. But I am afraid if I do test it I will want it! (Same with the Logic 7)

Yep, but you CAN NOT compare the Emmy to a regular E60. The Emmy has a total different setup that fits better in a SPORTS car.

Active Steering was last years INNOVATION OF THE YEAR and the other major car manufacturers are working on systems like that now. Go figure!

Active steering is a great innovation. Once you have it your hooked for life. Would not order another BMW without it. My 2005 545ia sport has a tighter feel to the steering than my '04 had. I guess you can get the same improved road feel on the 04 today with softwear updates. BMW has really hooned A/S. Though it is now a stand-alone option and not included in the sport pkg, DO NOT OVERLOOK ORDERING IT. It really makes the sport pkg complete when combined with active roll stabilization. Great safty feature in emergency steering manuevers also.
5 years from now or sooner, all sport sedans will have it or a version of it.
We are fortunate to live at a time when this type of technology is available. Why not take advantage of it?
