Have you tried looking it up on RealOEM.com - Select Your BMW Model?
Is it supposed to be on driver's side underbody area?
Updating after further check, is it inside the tank ??

If that is the case it appears complicated and not really clear if it is required to replace.

It's not under the car, it's under the backseat.
It's been a while since I did this but I seem to recall "unscrewing" the metal ring about a quarter turn, lifting up the existing filter, disconnecting a couple hoses, removing it, then reconnecting the hoses to the new unit and dropping it bank into the tank , then securing the metal ring with a quarter turn to seal in place. It's important that you get a good seal with the rubber ring/gasket to ensure no leaking.
