Last week I did a complete brake job and installed the TRW dust free pad at a local BMW shop, unitl now the brakes are fine and no dust yet. I asked the tech about changing the fuel filter since I hit the 100k km, he told me there is no need to change it because our E60's don't have an external filter like the old BMWs, the filter is inside the fuel tank. Is this true? Is there a real need to change the one inside the fuel tank? I would think this is a big job to do!

Your thoughts please!

Try http://www.realoem.com/bmw/ and put in first two letters and last seven digits of your VIN code and look for fuel supply. This should give pictures, part numbers and costs of the parts in your car.

Looks like the filter is not as sophisticated as the inline canister type so is less likely to get blocked up as it doesn't filter to the same degree. So the suggestion from your BMW man is probably right.

Yes, it's true.

Candidly, with the high quality of gasolines, the need to change a fuel filter is pretty minimal.

Very costly job to have done,I too am comimg up on 100k,but I chceked with a local auto shop here in Chicago told me that the filter alone is $450.I guess I will stick to 93 octane gas from my local BP station, and hope for the best.LOL
