Unusually hard brake pedals are usually the fault of the (vacuum) accumulator tank that (at least used to be) is mounted under the dash, above the pedal. When they fail, you have to really work the pedal.

moving foward.....now all of a sudden they say my brake booster is bad and are going to replace. Friday they said everything was fine and the hard pedal was "normal".
