What everyone is forgetting is faster WHERE - track / road / drag / rolling start / in gear ???????
The thing that I find interesting is that a 3.0litre straight 6 deisel is even remotely comparable to a 4.5litre V8
Personally, I think in almost all situations the 545i will be faster, but the plucky deisel will make an impressive show of it's self.

I didnt say its unfair that we compare the 535d with the 545i but my statements about the turbo's was based on your above sentence.

If you strap a couple of turbo's onto a 3.0litre petrol engine then OK it might be comparable to a 4.5 litre petrol.
But (until recently) most people (and I would have been one) would have laughed if you'd suggested that this could be the case with a (cough) diesel (shudder)

Plese tell me...because it's not fair to compare a TT diesel with a NA petrol (of higher displacement and size)?
If you think that's true then i have no more to say. I already responded to that issue.

Ok, i'll explain once more and please read cause you dont seems so good in that.
I NEVER, repeat NEVER said its unfair, NEVER, look it up if you want. The only reason why i started about the turbo's is because someone seemed so impressed that a 3 liter diesel was comparable to a 4.5 liter V8. Thats when i brought the turbo's up, to show that it was not so impressive cause it has two turbo's.
Capice?...

Fact stands that you reckon the standard 545i is quicker that the standard 550i which i'm sure will tickle BMW no end & pi$$ 550i owners off a little.

My Ride: M6 Silverstone II
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Well as my handle suggests i came from an M3 to the none smoking not bad sounding 535d
As a stock motor the performance was not bad but definately no where near the M3 , but as a ramapped turbo
diesel this thing puts the same smile on my face that the M3 did.
I have duelled an m3csl from 80mph to 163mph and the csl could not pass me on the motorway this
is where all that torque really kicks you in the seat of your pants.
After owning the M3 and the 4.6 X5 i really didnt think i would ever see the day i was tempted by a derv but try
it i did and i'm not dissapointed .
