I knew about some issues that e60 has. Every car has it's own right? But I also knew that BMW has strong engines. Doubt it know. FU$#@$@ 54650 miles and needs total rebuilt. $10000 Toyota Yaris with it's 1.3 will do a lot more. I know things break. But a V8 engine not reaching 120.000 miles is a junk I am thinking what to call the one not beeing able to do 60.000. Damn it.

Thanks, this was a really helpful post. Well thought out and very insightful. The guy is dealing with a major financial issue, and this is the support you provide?

The e60 relies on condition based service intervals. If you're changing your oil before the car indicates it, you're wasting your own time and money. I highly doubt it was the OP's fault the engine blew.

This is great news. Deep inside I knew that BMW would do the right thing. Just one bad engine does not make all the cars bad. You had an unfortunate bad engine, but for the most part, most BMWs will drive well into the 100K or even the 200K range, with proper maintenance. The trick isto take care of "minor" issues immediately, and yes, perform more frequent oil changes (7K miles) despite what iDrive, BMW, or other commenters say. A $100 investment every 5-6 months is much better than a $20K engine replacement. If you don't believe me, I suggest you google this subject and you will see that most car guys are in complete agreement with the shorter oil change intervals. Good luck with the new engine, and again, congratulations.

Well Rafi, once you get that new engine installed, come back to the forums for some mod ideas

Congrats man!!!!! This is great news. 700 is much more manageable than 4k! They obviously did the right thing, and to me, that goes a long way. Keep us posted and get some pics up of the new block
