I need to replace the battery in my '06 530i. The independent BMW shop that I go to uses Interstate batteries and Interstate shows that the correct one for my car has 770 Cold Cranking Amps. I looked at my old/original battery and it has 850 CCA. I would like to keep the same CCA but I'm not even sure if the BMW dealership's replacement battery would have 850 CCA (according to realoem.com, the 850 CCA battery is no longer available). Can anyone shed any light on the subject? Are there any other options available? Neither the dealer nor the independent shop will install and register a battery that they don't sell. I can install it, but it needs to be registered in the cars computer. Help!

I installed a Duralast from AutoZone and did not register it and have not had any problems since then. I would not obssess over the CCA or registration. You are in a relatively warm climate and do not need 850 CCA. Registration probably costs as much as a new battery and even if not registering shortens the new battery life by even 30% you are still way ahead by not doing it.

Just curious, may I ask how long you have you been driving with the unregistered battery?

Thank you,

Daniel

I think it's been about a year since I replaced it. Close to that for sure. Search the board, others have had them in longer.
