I have a 2005 530 with 6 speed manual. (230 hp) The window sticker listed highway mileage at 30mpg. I often drive from Richmond to Atlanta on RT 85 and get 30 to 31 actual mpg.
The BMW web site indicates the 2008 230hp 528 will get 27 and the 535 24. With all of the improvements from 2005, (new throttle system, regenerative charging, direct injection etc.) how could the mileage go down?
It's the 2008 EPA tests. Car and Driver, and Edmund's both had articles awhile back about car shopping in the near future when comparing 2007 to 2008 figures. Basically the new test is supposed to be realistic numbers for todays driving conditions. With that in mind it seems many BMW's were able to achieve higher MPG than the previous stickers, now it will only be the icing on the cake to have a car do better on mpg than your expecting. But come on who really buys a bimmer for the MPG? lol
That is looking to be my big decision in shopping for an 08 for going with a 535i vs a 550. Driving roughly 20,000 miles a year I don't think I can justify the luxury of the extra 60 ponies drinking more gas for me... I will definitely be envious of the lucky person to get the 550's cause they sure are nice!

It is gospel, and there's no reason for your rudeness on this forum.

300hp is just the quoted figure per the manufacturer under specified test conditions. The actual figure will vary depending on outside temperature, altitude and humidity. In other words, the figure is just a stated specification.

Dude you are the most uninformed bmw consumer I have seen who actualy visits forums. Look it up for yourself-stock 335s have been dynoing at 270 whp-I guess my mental math puts that at around 350ish no? Maybe closer to 330ish. Whatever the conversion it is putting down a lot more than 300 crank-do a google or look around at some 335 forums, pick up a car and driver that featured the car, search car and driver online-a number of things you can do you smartass-youll feel dumb when you see the info and realized you just made yourself look like an uninformed person who always acts like they know better-

Were you serious-"bmw said it has 300hp" haha so what that is gospel? Like anyone has ever taken a car dealers hp at face value-read the info bro

I guess I take back what I said-this is why bmw will continue to sell 550s at 10k over a 535 because I guess most buyers will just see the bmw figures of 300 hp v. 360 and think they are getting a much faster machine. Just shows you even someone dedicated enough to use an internet bmw forum is as uninformed as the next guy with new products. Marketing of bwm is brilliant

It seems that some of our newer members are a little less civil - can't we all just get along?

Yes I had to check my avatar to remind me. Member No 850 vs Member No 11,759

This forum's success can be attributed to its intelligent and civil members. In just one month of posts Member No 11,759 has flamed, ranted, picked fights and made un-informed and highly opinionated posts. Would the offender kindly post details about his/her vehicle and provide a location.
