I saw a 550i this morning.
Quite a shock. They're about as common as a VW Phaeton around these parts.
Clearly still common over the pond, they seem to becoming irrelevant here. There are a lot of 650i's around (perhaps due to the huge price premium for an M6), but all the action in the 5's now seems to be 535d - more torque than the 550i and all the power you'll ever need - or go the whole hog, on the "life's not a dress rehearsal" basis, and get the full on M5.

it'd be interesting if we had the 535d on this side of the pond. we might be singing the same tune
although, we'd have to get used to diesel. not too many sport saloons here sporting a diesel engine.

Can't remember the last time I saw a 550i in the flesh. Rarer still is the total waste of time that is the 540i. Nobody wants to buy big petrol engines when you can get more power and better economy from a diesel ( and at ?8k less than the 550i).
BMW need to get their finger out and start shipping the 535i to the UK to satisfy the petrolheads.

Strange. I see one at least twice a day. On the other hand I see a Phaeton almost every day too. A neighbor owns one.

Premium gas here is EUR 1.40 per litre. That works out as US$7.20 per US Gallon. Getting close to that $8
