I recently brought my 550 with a 6 speed manual (that has about 4k miles on it) to the dealer to complain about how the car accelerates between 2500 and 4000 RPM. It is very noticable in the higher gears (4-6) but I have also noticed it in 2nd and 3rd.

If you are cruising along at 2500 RPM and press the gas about 50-75% down - it bogs down and then accelerates but rough. It is hesiatating and feels like it is almost skipping a beat. I was wondering if anyone else has had this.

The dealership said it is running fine but they said come back and drive it with the shop foreman - which I plan on doing this week.

I was wondering if it could be a fault in the VANOS - but the dealership reported no faults were detected by the computer.

thanks
Michael

Let us know what you find out when you take it for a drive with the shop foreman.

Sounds like a delay in the throttle's response time... this will be fixed with a Sprint Booster. This video will show what i'm talking about... hope this helps.

Just got back from the test drive - he definitely felt it and I made an appointment for the car - it will not be until October 6th (need to wait for a loaner car). He thinks it might be a software issue or fuel pressure problem.

I am just glad he felt the same thing so now they need to figure out what the issue is.

I will report back hopefully not too long after 10/6

A quick update -

BMW has had my car for 3 days now and they ran a bunch of tests that BMW NA asked them to run and all came back OK. They upgraded the software but that didn't make a difference.

Now they are ordering a Air Mass Meter - which is a stab in the dark but is the most liikely component according to the shop foreman.

I should hear more tomorrow

Did you notice the DTC light come on when you do this? And are you sure you're not lugging the engine?

Does jamming on the accelerator all the way light up the DTC for a split second? I get that when I suddenly jam on it all the way.......
