Hi...OFF TOPIC, but are you in Sunny Singapore? 1st time I hear of a 550 here, let alone a manual. Heard some people mention they seen yr ride, but doubted because PML says they were not interested in bringing this model here.
no I am in the sometimes sunny North East USA

i hope this isnt a common issue with manuals.. at least there doing whatever they can to figure out themselves what the problem is.. hopefully they will either resolve it and fix it.. or do something acceptable for you that you want.. if they buy the car back from you what do you plan on doing? are you going to get another 550 manual?
If they end up buying it back - I am going to get another 550 Manual - tempted to get the M3 sedan but it is a little too small to double as a family hauler and probably a big difference in lease payments

It may sound dumb but I have to ask - are you sure you're running premium fuel? This sort of thing will happen if you use mid-grade even though at other times it's OK. I'd try a tank of Shell or any other non-ethanol premium and see if it improves - my 2p.
no - running premium all the time - when I first noticed it I thought it was a bad tank of gas - but many tanks later and different brands - still there.

Something else strange was it is less than 5000 mi and it just told me that my oil level was below minimum - had to add a quart.

My previous BMWs have needed oil but not that fast!

Got a call from the dealership on Friday and they told me they want to bring the car back in to run more tests this week.

I will keep you posted

Good luck finding your issue! I feel you, I have the same problem, but different engine/transmission. I drive a 2005 BMW 535d pre-LCI, chiptuned to 314hp. In my case, it depends on the load. Just me in the car, it will have the issue in late 4th gear. If I load the car with 4 persons and some luggage, it will begin having the problem in 3rd gear. Weird. I think it's fuel pressure related. You might want to check the fuel pump, see if it's within normal operating range.
Also, have your local BMW service take a ride with you and have the tester with them, plugged in while you drive the car. That will tell them alot more than a standard standing testing procedure.
Have them check the injectors, fuel pump pressure, check the air flow readings while the car is acting strange.

Please note, ask if needed, if they just changed the Air Flow Meter but haven't resofted the car for the new one, it will still act strange. The old Air Flow Sensor parameters must be deleted from the ECU before the new sensor can operate correctly.

Good luck once again!

Have them check the pressure post-fuel filter, preferably, at the injector manifold. A clogged filter will mask a good pump.

Received a call from dealership and they found another 6sp manual 550 and it did not behave the same as my car does. I have another appointment 11/10 for them to do some final testing/re-programming before they decide what to do

Will keep you posted

It sounds as though I am experiencing the identical problem, at same mileage etc. I am riding with BMW tech tomorrow so, would be very interested to know feedback from your dealer visit.

Just got my car back after 3 days - they are going to replace the clutch and flywheel (flywheel has to be shipped from Germany so it will be at least a week).

I am not too sure that it is really going to fix it - it does not feel like a slipping clutch - but I am also not a mechanic.

This will be their 3rd and final attempt to fix it - then we discuss options
