Does jamming on the accelerator all the way light up the DTC for a split second? I get that when I suddenly jam on it all the way.......
No, the DTC light is not coming on. But it almost feels like it is

GL, hope the Air Mass Meter is the fix, keep us posted
Air Mass Meter did not help - they are at a loss as to what it could be. They said they got one fault in the catalytic convertor but they cleared it. I got the car back so at least I can use it (they do not want to run into the 30 days where I can trigger the lemon law.)

BMW NA is trying to find a 550 with a 6sp manual - then they are going to test that one to see if it exhibits the same behavior. They said this might take a while. I asked them what the end point is if they cannot resolve it - they said we can discuss the options when they hve more information. Will they buy it back if they cannot resolve it and get me a new one - it only has 4k mi on it.

I am going to let it go for 2 weeks and if they still have no progress I speak with the manager to see what our next steps are - it is definitely unacceptable for a brand new car to not run right.

Sorry to hear about it Michael , you are right it is unacceptable for a brand new car. They should definitely do what they can to resolve the issue.

My first guess would be a bad spark plug, coil, or wire. It sounds like a miss from a cylinder not firing properly. I wouldn't expect a bad plug so soon but inspection should be easy. If one is discolored or blackened compared to the others, that's your problem.

Might also be a clogged injector but I'd guess a spark issue before a fuel issue.

Then again, I've heard of misfire warnings from the computer so it should know if something is going on but maybe not....

I have a 2007 550 with 6 speed, 13000 miles, and have the same problem. It has been like this since new. Dealer said he had heard of the problem but had no fix. A poster on this or another forum suggested turning DSC off. This seems to work for mine, but of course really isn't a fix. I'm anxious to hear what BMW comes up with.

Hi...OFF TOPIC, but are you in Sunny Singapore? 1st time I hear of a 550 here, let alone a manual. Heard some people mention they seen yr ride, but doubted because PML says they were not interested in bringing this model here.

i hope this isnt a common issue with manuals.. at least there doing whatever they can to figure out themselves what the problem is.. hopefully they will either resolve it and fix it.. or do something acceptable for you that you want.. if they buy the car back from you what do you plan on doing? are you going to get another 550 manual?

It may sound dumb but I have to ask - are you sure you're running premium fuel? This sort of thing will happen if you use mid-grade even though at other times it's OK. I'd try a tank of Shell or any other non-ethanol premium and see if it improves - my 2p.

My 2008 550i SAT sometimes feels like this, but only when I'm in standard automatic and driving conservately..

Flick it over left to sport/manual, or better yet push the sport button and use the paddle shifters and any slow response is immediately gone.
