You have to take engine cover(s) off to get at it.

Thanks, yeah I got that......duh......., but the oil dipstick I was talking about in your pic seems to be on the passenger side "Middle upper part of pic" the red thingy...??? what is that about??
Mine is at the opposite side of the engine.

Don't know. Maybe if its right hand drive its on the opposite side....?

Thought the pic was of your car??? is yours RH drive? says U R in Canada also so I guess not?

stick is on opposite side of engine 2004 545i

Thanks guys. I did not change the fuel filter yet but did change the oil to BMW oil and put Lucas Engine Treament in the fuel. It seem to have simmered down but I will get a retarded moment every now an then. I still wish to change the fuel filter. That will be next. Will keep you posted. Runs like a champ other wise. I am just picky about any unusual idle. A bump here and there bothers me.

Have you tried to run lower octane gas, like regular? I have been doing research on this rough idle and that seems to be a "fix"even suggested by BMW SA's....

Ok I tried the lower octane . . three tanks and it did not make the problem better. I am not positive the dealer completed the SB dealing with the valve clearance. It runs smooth as heck on the open road but in town I get that BUMP in the ilde and like it just wants to take off at a stop light. I just feel like selling it and starting over.
