My Ride: 2006 530i
i have a 2006 530i with 70,000km extended warranty will be over by Nov of this year. Notice the rough idle and jerky gear shifting since April, been trying to get this rough idle fix for since then.
My buddy work as the floor man in a BMW dealership
1st my buddy replaced the crank case value for me, since this is not cover under the extended warranty we figure we get this out of the way before it head into the dealership. Conclusion it didn't change the rough idle issue
After, I have gotten my 530i into the dealership. it started with VANO replacement, seem to be better, but not 100% cure. Did a fresh flash of the software to see if help, still no luck.
The latest update, he found out 2 of the cylinder is misfiring. End up taking the engine apart and found out the cylinder block is wearing too much. Just submitted and gotten approval from the extended warranty. A new cylinder block and some seal parts been order and hopefully after this rebuild will fix it.
will keep you guys posted

Thanks 545iMike. I am going to change the crankcase hoses first. I believe there are two at $70 bucks each at the dealer. That seems to be the easiest start. I may have to getthe dealer to Check the DISA valve and pay them to do all that. I know I will forget to plug something back. I will probably do that this weekend and I will post the results. I will also spray the MAF sensorl and see what that does and post it as well.

I'm leery about the DISA. Its not like the other ones with the plastic flap. Its gear driven.
Some one had posted about changing all their vacuum hoses to silicone ones. Maybe something else to try. Could have a minimal vacuum leak. I know the factory hoses just have to be looked at the wrong way and they crack.

Ok, I bought some MAF cleaner and Sprayed the MAF and connections as the directions stated and still runs the same after test driving it. It may be different tomorrow but I will post it here if that changes. I still have not disconnected the MAF sensor to see if it runs smooth. I may do that as well and get a check engine light in the process.

I sprayed the MAF senor with cleaner and it made a slight improvement. I still get that hard retarded bump everynow and then and more so with the AC on. Intermittent (?) rough idle and I still feel it. I just KNOW it should be smooth with no "bumps." That is my update. I looked at the Crankcase Vent hoses and they almost look new. I still do not believe the SIB was performed. I will keep you guys posted.

I also had similar issue, rough idle with AC on only, RPMs were stable.
Not sure what fixed it, I cleaned MAF, run a couple of bottles of injector cleaner, changed oil to BMW 5w-30 from Castrol, charged battery several times.
Now it seems fine, I still feel some vibrations through steering wheel but it's constant and muted, since it's V8 and BMWs are not as isolated as MB I think it's acceptable.
You can actually see engine roughness values via INPA fo reach cylinder, try that if it's within OK range then you just have to live with it and/or your engine is not the source of the roughness..
