I am trying to find any kind of directive to remove the dashboard plastic panels on my 2006 - E60 - 530D the panel in particluar sits just above the cd gate plastic panel {are they one unit}?

Yes.
You need to take out the trim with the vent grills, loosen the 2 screws and then you can get it off.

Thanks for advice will "attempt" to strip and replace, when removing the panel do the actual butons and knobs clip out or does the panel just "pull" away from them?
