Got mine on November 07. I got it from a dealer auction and its not a CPO. So far a dead battery, replaced a thermostat. Nothing after those 2 issues and I hope I don't hear that knocking noise from the engine. From reading this forum, it sounds costly.
Hey DK - You coming to the meet on June 14th?

I picked up my 2005 CPO 525 a few weeks and I took in on Tuesday for a few minor issues including vibration at highway speeds. Just got a call from my SA indicating that the car needs a new rack and they are trying to get approval from BMW to fix under warranty. If I didn't have the warranty this would cost me $2500 according to the SA. I am shocked that they could have missed this during the CPO inspection! The real bummer is the car will not be ready until after the holiday weekend.

I checked the service history before buying and there was nothing unusual: inspections, brakes, tires, etc.

1. OP you must be right, the dealer must get paid more to fix under warranty than CPO process
2. I need to the get the CPO checklist and find out everything else they "checked"
3. Need to get rid of this car before the warranty runs out!

How has your 545 been for you overall? Any major issues with it? I just bought a CPO on April 25th with 39k and have had it in the shop for 12 days with hope to get it back tommorow. Steering rack got replaced, DSC sensor replaced, and In dash CD replaced to name a few. I finally went to the dealer today to visit the service department and spoke with the salesmen that sold me the car. My salesman told me something interesting today. Apparently if the dealer has title of the car and something needs to be fixed it is charged back to the dealer, but if someone like myself takes ownership of the car it no longer is cost to the dealership but BMW of North America. Is anyone else familar with this? Would this not give dealerships motivation to wait to fix things?

On a side note I did get the number to BMW customer service and will be calling tomorrow about my issue. Hopefully something will come of this. I only hope that issues like this will not arise again and that after I get my car back I can look forward to worry free driving as I want to enjoy my first BMW not regret it.

All the best with your repairs. I purchased mine with 58k on it for 24k late last year. Ive already put 30k on the car, and the only issue I had was a control arm due to insane pot holes here. i have the 100k mile warranty and maint. package luckily, but have not had a single issue or repair. I agree with the post about 'shop whores'. keep us updated.

Have any of you on this post had the engine tapping/knocking noise? Usually on colder days and when driving off. More pronounced at the 1800 - 2200 RPM range.

Everything external to the engine has been ruled out, pulleys, A/C compressor, etc.
