Yet another E60 hifi upgrade
Hi. I know this is an old thread but hoping someone sees this. You mentioned you bought a 4x80w amp to beef up the headunit which powers the speakers on your system. How did you wire and connect this? And what type of amp did you use, and where did you place it?

I have two Toro amplifiers in the boot/trunk. They are in the side pocket, opposite side to the battery.
MRx2 for the underseat subwoofers, and MRx4 for the door/parcel shelf speakers. They were much cheaper when I bought them than they are now; I think you could find something that costs less.
The one that runs the underseat subwoofers is fairly easy as the existing amplifier is nearby, so I just wired to that.
For the door/parcel shelf speakers, it is more difficult. After thinking about it a lot, I ended up putting this amplifier in the same location. The speaker wires run all the way from the harness in the dashboard to the amp, then back again to the same harness, interrupting the lines from the CCC unit to the speakers. It's a lot of wire but it was the best way I could find to do it.
The harness I chopped into was the one that came with my Android Auto head unit. I added some plugs to it so it is easy to delete the Toro amp if I want to.
While I was in there, I also added a centre speaker in the dashboard.
It was a fair bit of work and I left it until I was running a cable for the reversing camera at the same time. They all run along the side of the car, under the carpet and trim together.
