Oh man. You know that part above that you say to replace because it will break if you look at it wrong? Well...today I noticed my coolant was low. Went to fill it up and saw some seepage from that part that you indicated above in white. Looks like it's going to get a new part tomorrow. Hopefully it's not difficult to replace.

Just completed replacing the hoses, thermostat and water pump. I had to remove and reinstall the new water pump twice as coolant was dripping from the bottom bolt behind the crank pulley. After reinstalling with gasket sealer, the leak is still there and I now suspect it may be the short coolant pipe of which there is no mention in the posts. I am hoping this is the problem and will replace that next. I will soon be able to do this job blindfolded

If your pump was a re manufactured unit, look in this hole make sure it is not filled with coolant. some of these re manufactured ones are junk

and if the water pipe is leaking you should be able to see it here in this hole below...

Insert pipe cleaner or rod with tissue on the end into this hole. This hole goes into the chamber under the intake and will fill with coolant if the pipe is leaking Bend rod so the tip will touch the bottom inside. If you have coolant inside it is VERY BAD news, the water pipe under the intake is leaking.

Thanks for the suggestions. I traced the leak to the temperature sender on the thermostat. Some high temperature thread sealer on the threads solved the problem.
