The E61 is a LCI with 65k's on the clock, with an extended BMW warranty for a year. I'll check the flaps before the warranty expire.

Ah sorry, just looked at the -04 in your sig.
About the swirl flap blanking: have been driving without the flaps for several month now, no difference whatsoever in performance!

Hi guys,
I've done mine also. As I didn't want to dismount the flaps themselves, close the holes,... I've bought on the internet the blanking plates recommended on the forum, that close the hole perfectly.
Job completed in less then two hours.
I met the following little issue.
1) On the EGR valve, there is a rubber tube attached. It was impossible to dismount it properly. I had to cut it off. However, the remaining rubber hose is long enough to be attached again without being obliged to replace it.
2) same issue with the rubber hose attached on the rod actuator. This time, it was easier to dismount the actuator, and let it on the car then removing the hose.
Rest is easy.
The EGR valve wasn't that dirty, so I let it on without cleaning.
My ride is a 06' 535D touring chiptuned that has 200.000km done. All the flaps were in "good" shape. I could not suspect that any of them would have broken in the next 100.000 km.
Anyhow, now, it's done.

A big thanks to Anzafin for this great DIY!
I decided to de-swirl flap as I was replacing the vacuum pipes and following the how to guide it went well. Only problem along the way was as a torx bolt on the strut bar would not move and ended up getting very chewed up.... managed to work with it in situ but it caused a lot of and !
Once the manifold was off the followed the instructions and it was straight forward! I had the improved flaps and they where not in too bad a state
Got it all back together and I've noticed no difference apart from the peace of mind that comes from knowing they will not be causing me any issues.....
I had to drill and extract out the bolt on the strut bar but I was glad the little was out.
Anyone thinking to do it should go for it or get a garage to do it....
Edit - Also Why is this not a stickie at the top of the DIY section!!!

Hi! Two weeks ago I bought e39 05/2001 525dA.
After reading through this topic, I became worried about their flaps, and in the near future, too, will remove them.
I went to the BMW service center with this question, their answer was:
? It is better to delete it!
I watched directories BMW and noticed that on the same machine but with a manual transmission no flaps. They are present only on the automatic gearbox. This is another confirmation that the flaps are not so needed
manual transmission
automatic transmission
Etienne76, tell me where on the internet to buy the blanking plates as you have a photo?
P.S. Sorry for my English, I use the Google translator.

Hi guys.
Can you please tell me what size are the blanking plates(swirl flap replacements) for the E60 ? I saw that on ebay are two kinds, a 22 mm and 33 mm ones. I don't know what to order.
Please, help !
Edit - I have the 2.5d engine.
